I went to Taman Ismail Marzuki and watched a play yesterday. A great performance by Teater Mandiri. My uncle was one of the artist. He was the one giving us the invitation. Us were me, uly, mom, dad, uly’s mom, aunt eva and her husband. That’s 7 excluding my uncle’s wife and kids. The play was Cipoa by Putu Wijaya. We were actually a bit late for the play, trapped in an awful traffic. But luckily, my uncle could persuade the team to hold the start until we arrive (phew). So it started a few minutes past 8 (pm).
The play had 2 main stories. The 1st one started with a man sitting with his back toward the audience. He then mumbled and slowly turn around. He told a story about the giant race living in Indonesia in monologue (not always, but most of the time). The other one is Cipoa. This one tried to reflect our country condition, how lies and selfishness has became a natural instinct of most of the people.

Artists performing in this play were Putu Wijaya, Rieke Dyah Pitaloka, Yanto Kribo, Ucok Hutagaol (my uncle), Alung Seroja, Arswendy Nasution, Fien Herman, Bei, Bung Kardi, Chandra, Rino, Agung Wibisana, Kleng Sanjaya, Diyas Istana, Umbu LP Tangela. Directed by Putu Wijaya, and music supported by Jalu and Fahmi. The duration was about 110 minutes. Overall, I really like it. And there’s a special performance by Butet Kertaradjasa at the end of the play. A perfect dessert (^_^)
And one last thing to make the night perfect, lesehan dinner at cikini!! Great chicken porridge served side by side with sate ampela. Yummy! a real seduction for our tummy! We also met some of the artists having dinner in the same place. I don’t know how to say this nicely in English, kalo yang nonton aja pulang2 laper, apa lagi yg maen kan? 😛
